'Shock as Police Officer Attempts To Kill Wife, Children By Set Them On Fire Inside Their House

Suicide and murder cases among police officers have been on the rise and most are blamed on stress and work-related trauma.

Police in Nairobi are investigating where a police officer is alleged to have threatened to kill his wife, children by set their house in fire.

Daniel Mutisya is alleged to have attempted to kill his wife Josephine Mutindi and children in Mowlem area.

He is said to have attempted to light a gas cooker to burn his wife and the children who were at home at the time.

Mutisya, a general duty officer at Ruai police station, was also accused of attempted arson, assault and resisting arrest.

According to reports by local publication, the officer and his wife had an argument at home before he committed the offence.

His daughter raised alarm and attracted the attention of neighbours who rushed to the scene and turned the gas off.

The angered officer threw a beer bottle at neighbours who had responded to the distress call.

Officers arrested Mutisya and escorted him to Dandora police station.

When he appeared in court, Mutisya denied the charges. His was released on a Sh1 million bond.

Few months ago, President Uhuru Kenyatta urged officers to always seek alternative solutions to challenges facing them, as opposed to committing suicide or murder.
