Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has offered a piece of solid advice to men, following the rising cases of divorce in the country. Taking to his official Instagram page, the flamboyant politician said that it's not wise for a man to divorce his first wife whom they have suffered together for many years, and settle down with a sidechick or a second wife.
According to Sonko, a real gentleman never abandons a woman who stuck with him through thick and thin. Sonko said it's only wise to keep both the first wife and the second wife.
He further urged men who are married to second wives to ensure that the first wife is always respected. "In my opinion, a man cannot divorce his wife who's the mother of his children and whom they have suffered together for many many years for a sidechick or second wife. He better keep both of them as first and second wife or sidechick etc. and on top of that give maximum respect to the 1st wife. Watu wangu. Do you agree with me on this one ama?" Sonko wrote.
Sonko's post elicited a lot of reactions on social media, with many people supporting his sentiments. His sentiments come hours after city businessman Peter Waweru confirmed that he had divorced his first wife and married Laikipia Woman Rep Cate Waruguru.
Waweru added that he is following the legal procedure to annul his troubled marriage with his ex-wife, adding that he has already paid dowry for Waruguru.
Do you support Sonko's sentiments that no man in his right senses divorces his first wife?
