I might come off as a little biased. But I love being in a love-distance relationship.
I love being able to be with someone while simultaneously not being with them. There are some things that I crave, such as physical touch. But I was able to pull it off with my boyfriend for more than 2 years.
Now, my boyfriend and I absolutely love each other. We can't get enough of each other! So we tend to have at least one phone call a day. Our two-and-a-half-hour time gap makes it quite easy for us to contact each other. So we talk either in the morning or in the evening.
And a lot of things can happen during those calls. We talk, we watch videos, we work together, and we even sleep at the same time. A day never goes by without him or me picking the phone and calling the other.
But sometimes, the days can get a little boring. There are times when that inevitable feeling of boredom strikes. Nobody has any good stories to tell, and nobody has any good plans to do. We just lie down and do absolutely nothing.
Times like these can really make you wonder if a long-distance relationship is going to stay like this. You can't do those typical couple things like riding bikes or drinking at the cafe. Calling every day and doing the same thing can get awfully dull quickly.
If you think you have done everything there is to do with your S.O., think again. There are plenty of activities that you can do with your long-distance partner. Even if you are kilometers away, you can still find ways to have exciting and engaging pastimes. And the best part is that some of these suggestions are easy to accomplish, and you don't have to break the bank.
Here are 7 unique ideas that you can do with your long-distance lover today.
1. Play "Offline" Games with Your SO (Like Cards or Board Games)
But there are days when we get tired of shooting enemies. It's fun to play video games, but the fast-paced nature of most online games can wear us down over time.
So instead, you choose a more "offline" approach.
Simple two-player games are a lot of fun, especially with your partner. You can play games like Poker, UNO, or my personal favorite, Cards Against Humanity. There are ways you can play casual games with your S.O. The easiest is using an app.
A game of wits can get very romantic. Who doesn't want to see their sweetheart show off their intellect? So if you enjoy the simpler games in life, try them out with your partner on your next date night.
2. Create a Book Club Between the Two of You
When was the last time you picked up a book? I'm pretty sure a lot of people on this website are bookworms. But for those who are tired of Netflix every day, a book might do the trick.
Why suffer alone when you can suffer with the one you love? Jokes aside, having a reading buddy can make a book feel easier to go through. You can have someone to talk to about the themes, characters, and stories. You can pick apart scenes and arcs as you two hop on chapter to chapter. And who knows, you might even pick up another book afterward!
Reading is more fun when you have somebody to share it with. It's also a nice break from watching The Office for the 20th time.
3. Send Love Letters the Old Fashion Way: Through Postal!
We may be living in the age of technology. But that doesn't mean we can no longer enjoy the majesty of love letters. We're sure the post office in your locality still works. And to keep them in business, why don't you send your honey a delightful love letter?
Letter writing is a fun hobby that you and your partner can do. It's more than just writing words on a sheet of paper. You can get creative by using stamps, stickers, and colors. It adds personality and intimacy and will surely make your partner fall in love.
Sending letters can be a bit pricey, especially if you add anything heavy like a toy. But if you can spare a few coins, you should definitely try letter writing out. Your partner will adore every single word on that page.
4. Create Good Music Together
There's something about music that binds everyone together. Beautiful melodies can create beautiful bonds that can last forever. And while I am not a musically inclined person, I can tell you just how fun it is to make your own song.
You and your partner can create wonderful tunes together too. You can actually find plenty of online resources that allow you to create virtual music in a snap. So what better way to say 'I love you!' than with a ballad made by the both of you?
Writing your first song can feel very intimidating. But with your partner around, you two can brainstorm a love song that can rival Ariana Grande or Taylor Swift.
5. Collaborate on a Project That You Two Can be Proud of
Everyone has a unique talent. We're sure both you and your significant other have a unique ability as well. You can both put those skills to the test and collaborate on a big project. It can be a comic book, a music video etc. The sky is the limit on what you two can create!
And what's great about the Internet is that it's easier for the two of you to join forces and share data. You can send hundreds- if not thousands- of text, pictures, audio, and videos to each other with a click of a button. This makes content creation easier to achieve.
A big project requires a lot of dedication. For a single person, it can feel like a tidal wave crashing on you. But with a partner, it will feel more like a splash from a tropical beach.
6. Give Them a Virtual Tour of the Town.
Right now, as I am writing this article, more places are slowly opening up. It's still a little risky to go out just for fun. But with proper precaution, you shouldn't have to worry about a thing.
Being locked up inside can get very lonely, and we're sure your partner feels the same. Being unable to travel is a bane for a lot of people. So why not give your partner a virtual tour around town? The sight of any foreign place can bring a little bit of joy to anybody. And for your partner who has been cooped up for more than a year, a little bit of outdoor can go a long way.
7. Have a Nap Together.
We all understand just how tiring life can be. And during these times, doing nothing is the most appealing thing to do. So we take a nap. We place our phones in a safe place, lower the volume, turn off the lights, and sleep.
Look, we know that dates should be fun and that you and your partner should do something to keep the romance going. But we all need a break. We all need some quiet time with our partners . And what better way to get some peace than by sleeping?
A nap can rejuvenate both of you and give you time to think of what to do next. And since you are doing it together, you both can wake up at the same time. Trust me when I tell you that a nap will benefit you two. You'll feel happier, more energized, and even a little romantic after waking up together.
I bet you and your long-distance lover have a fun activity that always livens things up. Leave your unique date ideas in the comment section below. It can inspire me and other couples around the world.
