GMO Food That Scientists Have Produced In Some Countries

According to SFM magazine, GMO is organism in which DNA has been altered in a way that doesn't occur naturally by mating and/or natural recombination. It help to introduce new trait into the species. Here are some of them.

1. Banana

Genetically edited bananas could be resistant to a disease. It has fortified vitamin A and Iron.

2. Pumpkin

Some of these pumpkins don't brown and bruise.

3. Maize

Long-red sequencing reveals genomic structural variations that underlie creation of quality protein maize.

4. Popeye pigs

Scientists in Japan modified pigs that are both meat and vegetable. They are inserted with a spinach gene that converts saturated fat into unsaturated fat.

5. Super cows

They are breed that have defective myostatin gene thus resulting in double musling. They have lean meat and reduced fat content.

6. Featherless chicken

Scientists in Israel created prototype of a breed of featherless chicken that can save time plucking and reduce the cost of raising them.

Genetically modified organisms may have dangers related to organ health, mutation, pregnancy and offspring, and potential transfer of genes to the consumer. One of the problems with selective breeding is that it can cause results in traits that are not desired.
