The human body has very many bones which are said to be 206 in total. All these bones are connected to each other to make the human skeleton. However, there is only one bone that is not connected to any other bone, the hyoid.
This is a horseshoe shaped bone located in the throat. It lies between the chin and the thyroid cartilage. This bone is considered to be where speech originates. In the region where it is located it can work with the voice box (larynx) and the tongue to produce the different human vocals.
Apart from humans, the Neanderthals are the other only creatures that have been been identified to be in possession of this bone. This has pushed scientists to believe that the Neanderthals once had speech patterns like humans.
