1-To start us off we look at the book of Proverbs 12:25 which says:
"Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad."
We see anxiety all around us. We see it in our family, our friends, our co-workers, our neighbors, and even feel it ourselves. Not to mention that with the pace of people’s life accelerating, it has become a commonplace that people get trapped in anxiety. It is true that anxiety is a crippling emotion. It grips a person and causes lots of other problems physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
What I want to stress here is that: Do not be anxious about your anxiety. We should pay attention to our inner peace and the balance of life, but should not overreact to our anxiety. We should not let anxiety control our actions.
Anxiety is not rare. Anxiety happens anytime, anywhere and can visit everyone. Just stay calm, collected and prayerful. Let it go and let God step in.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Psalm 46 is a strong biblical passage that reminds us that even in the face of trouble, God is our refuge and strength. The bible doesn’t talk about the absence of calamity, but God promises his presence in trying times. Even in the midst of tragic circumstance God is still present, even when it is hard to see or perceive him. God has not failed us. He has promised to be with us in the middle of tragedy. We sometimes think that when we find ourselves in difficult circumstances that God has abandoned us, but this is not the case.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Perhaps one of the biggest battles we face in life actually comes from inside of us – our thoughts. We often compare the application of this verse to a set of gates. The first gate is “true,” the second is “honorable,” then “right,” and so on. When we have a thought come into our heads, it must be able to pass through ALL of the gates of this verse before it is allowed to remain in our heads. So, we can ask ourselves, “is this thought true?” If so, then “is this thought honorable?” If at any point a thought cannot pass through a “gate” from this text, then it must not be allowed to remain in our heads. Now, what do we do when we recognize that we are dwelling on something we shouldn’t? We must work to replace that thought with something – anything – that is God-honoring. This is where the true battle begins, and it’s hard work, but we must do what we need to in order to keep our thought life under control. In time and with faithfulness in this fight, we will find that we can have freedom over our sinful or unbeneficial thoughts and their destructive outcome.
Great and glorious God, thank You that You care so much for us. That You want the chains of anxiety to be broken for good. That we can call upon You and make our emotions known to You and receive Your peace.
Help us to have a revelation moment when the grip of worry and anxiety leave us and may we give You all the honor and praise.
Thank You for Your Word Lord and help us live a life of encouragement and compassion for others. May we be more and more like Jesus. In Jesus Name we pray. AMEN.
