After Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja said he would not close places of worship due to noise pollution, the atheist community threatened to sue him over what they claim as him favoring the church over clubs.
Some Nairobi residents put pressure on Sakaja by calling for him to close churches as well as bars and nightclubs that were responsible for noise pollution in residential areas.
Harrison Mumia, the chairman of the Kenyan Atheists, claimed that the governor's refusal to shut down churches was a blatant example of his hypocrisy.
“It is in the public domain that in your speech during the official commissioning of the Green Park Bus terminal you said that you won’t shut down churches located in residential areas in the city. Instead, your government will hold talks with the clergy to come up with an appropriate solution. You are treating the religious community with privilege,” Harrison Mumia said.
