Dramatic scenes unfolded today, Sunday 4th, after police officers found a worship service ongoing in one of the evangelical churches in Rongai, Kajiado county. This event happened as the officers carried out an operation to ensure that all the set protocols to avoid the spread of Covid-19 were followed to the letter.
A few congregants had gathered in this church, Jesus Celebration Centre, where they were marking the Easter Sunday of resurrection. The pastor of the church, Daniel Kombe, tried to plead with the officers but his efforts ran futile. He argued that the few people present were helping him conduct the church service which was being aired online through social media platforms.
The angry officers did not listen to his plea as they ordered the service to stop on immediate effect. The people inside were also ordered to go home leaving the congregants who were following the event online in confusion. Click to watch video.
Kajiado county is one of the blacklisted areas which were termed by the president as disease infected. Places of worship in these areas were suspended from conducting any form of gathering until further notice. This was in efforts to combat the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.
This scene happened at a time when churches have asked the president to revise the measures and allow them to operate. Politicians have been blamed as the ones responsible for the third wave of infections.
