6 Keys That Guarantee a Fruitful Prayer Life That Every Christian Should Know

For prayers to yield positive results, certain things have to be observed. Every Christian should endeavour to learn these helpful keys that will guarantee them answers to prayer:

1. Always repent for your sins

Being repentant gives room for God to hear our prayers. In our own righteousness we cannot stand before God but because of His mercy, God extends His love towards us through His son Jesus Christ. Sin hinders our prayers from being answered (Isaiah 59:1-2) hence we should always repent for our wrong thoughts, deeds and speech.

2. Focus on God during prayer

It is not just enough to kneel or prostrate on the ground while praying. God requires that our entire focus will be on him alone as we pray and not on the troubles we are facing. Focusing on God during prayer means you lay aside every thought that seeks to distract your momentum in prayer. You are in one mind and heart with God and your spirit is aligned to God as you pray. This makes it possible for you to also hear from God.

3. Tarry in the place of prayer

If you desire God to do something for you, you will wait on God and ask him to answer you. In the garden of Gethsemane, the disciples of Jesus could not tarry with him in prayer during the night. While Jesus prayed, they were all asleep (Matthew 26:40-45). If we desire God's response, then we should be willing to sacrifice our time, sleep and other luxuries and seek God. That sacrifice could go a long way in ensuring our prayers are answered.

4. Pray for the will of God to be done

Above all, always seek for God's will to be done. Praying according to God's will means that despite the petitions you have presented to Him in prayer, you agree that the answer He gives will be suitable regardless of how unfavourable it may seem to be. You are sure that in the end, all things work together for your good (Romans 8:28). Jesus Christ is the perfect example of this as we see in Matthew 26:39. He prayed for the cup of suffering to be taken away from Him. Nevertheless, He was willing to partake of the suffering if indeed it was the will of God.

5. Persistence in prayer

Most people complain about unanswered prayer when they only prayed once and stopped. Jesus Christ taught that men ought to pray and not give up (Luke 18). This means that we should be constant in prayer and present to God our desires. If we pray earnestly, God will surely answer our prayers. This does not mean that God always delays in answering prayers. He can answer immediately but when the answers don't come in the time we expect, we should keep praying with the assurance that God will answer in the appointed time.

6. Have Faith, don't doubt

Hebrews 11:6 points out that it is impossible to please God without faith. Therefore, we should endeavour to present our prayers with absolute faith and trust in God because of His ability to answer. When we doubt, even the prayers we make cannot yield any results.

In conclusion, I believe that these 6 keys will be helpful in achieving result-oriented prayers. As you apply them in your prayer life, share with as many people as possible to enlighten them. May your prayers yield results.
