Church Leaders Protest Government Move of Closing Churches and Opening Bars in Western Region

It's barely three weeks since the ministry of health that is headed by Mutahi Kagwe as the Cabinet Secretary announced that all five counties in Western region namely; Busia, Bungoma, Kakamega, Vihiga and Trans Nzoia be locked down following the increasing cases of Covid-19.

The ministry announced that all churches be closed down and other social gathering activities be closed down for 30 days as one of the containment measures of fighting against the spread of Covid-19. The ministry of health has also urged the citizens to adhere to all containment measures such as wearing face masks and maintaining social distance to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The church leaders from Kakamega county have strongly opposed the government's move of closing down churches and allowing other social gathering activities to take place such as burial ceremonies and bars and restaurants operating.

The religious leaders have urged the government that is headed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to permit all churches in the Western region continue operating to nourish the citizens spiritually.
