Did you know that a dog being seen in a mosque is one of the greatest taboos of the Islamic faith. The dog could be killed or even the owner imprisoned and this is especially in strict Islamic countries where there is strict adherence to sharia laws.
In the Islamic religion, dogs are not allowed in the mosque and this is because of the high regard accorded to the mosque.
Back then during the days of Prophet Muhammad, dogs in the Middle East would interact freely with the people since most of them were nomadic pastoralists who kept sheep and goats. The dogs were necessary to ensure security for their animals and livestock.
A time came when there was a shift and most of those people shifted from being nomads to cities where they practiced other economic activities but that is not the main reason for their serious hate for dogs.
In the mosque of Medina which was used by the prophet and considered the 2nd most holiest place in the world, dogs were often seen there and what that means is that the prophet would pray in the presence of dogs.
So what changed and let to the complete hate for dogs? So this is what happened and follow me till the end.
Some years back about a century ago, there was an outbreak of contagious diseases like cholera and malaria also became common and this people began to see the relationship between dirt and these diseases. This deseases were common in places near cemeteries, garbage dumps where dogs would constantly feed. Since the dogs were commonly associated to these places and the fact that they would feed on dumped food led to the idea of hate for the animals.
And within no time, the people started doing away with the animal and many were against keeping the animals as a pet. Historically that is how it can be traced.
What it means seeing a dog in a mosque
Over time the dog became an outcast in Islamic and this too is common in the rabbinical Judaism. There is a long tradition in the islam that considers just a mere sight of this animal when a person is praying has the ability to nullify the prayer of a Muslim because the animal is considered impure.
Due to this correlation with impurity and dirt, they will never allow a dog anywhere near the mosque. The fact that they are ritually impure means they have the ability to nullify a person's prayer. Instead of a dog, a Muslim would rather keep a cat as a pet because cats are considered to be among the cleanest animal in the world.
In some countries though, the Muslims and especially those to the elite class keep dogs as a sign of their status. Many however consider the animal as evil, dirty and most of all impure.
Do you think it is right for the dogs to be treated that way? Let me hear your views on the comment section below. Also don't forget to like and also share.
