Chebukati Counterattacks Raila, Thanks The Following People Who Privately Visited Him on August 15th

The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Mr Wafula Chebukati has now counterattacked the ODM party leader Raila Odinga over the role of religious leaders during the intense August 9 elections.

Speaking on Sunday during a church service he had attended in Nyamira county, Raila attacked the religious leaders who camped at the country's National Tallying Centre, Bomas to sing and pray, arguing that they were supporting an injustice practice.

“I will not give a blanket criticism, but we have seen church leaders associate themselves with injustice in our country. What happened on 15th August was unfortunate, and you saw the church standing in front of the cameras and trying to sanitize a very flawed process,” Mr Odinga remarked.

Speaking on December 27, in an obvious dig against Raila Odinga, Chebukati commended the religious leaders who stood firm at Bomas despite of being in an intense environment. Further, Chebukati thanked a section of other religions leaders who went to his home and prayed on August 15th, shortly before he declared Ruto president in the final presidential results.

“Grateful to the religious leaders who came to pray with me at our home on 15/08/22 and all interreligious council members who kept vigil and stood firm at Bomas despite being injured and facing intimidation," Chebukati said.
