The retired Archbishop was born on 25th December 1931 in Mwala, Machakos County. He was ordained as a priest in 1861 and ordained as a bishop in 1968 where he served Machakos and Nakuru, before being appointed as Coadjuctor Archbishop of Nairobi in 1996.
He played an active role in the struggle for the reintroduction of multiparty democracy in Kenya. He is best remembered foe his fearless confrontation of the provincial administration and the police for their role in political clashes in1992 where 2000 people are reported to have died.
He died at the age of 88 on 31st March 2020,after a long illness.
Kenyans will remember him for his selfless service to humanity and for being a man of God who fearlessly defended human rights.
