Trying Times as Leadership Wrangles Rock MCK Church, Bishop is Ousted While Outside the Country

Methodist Churches of Kenya leadership wrangles seems not to come to an end.

The church which has been rocked with leadership dispute for long as resulted into ousting the current sitting Bishop Rev. Joseph Ntombura and immediately replaced him to a caretaker committee which will be headed by Interim Presiding Bishop Stephen Kanyaru.

As the ouster was happening, reliable sources revealed that Rev. Ntombura was outside the country.

In a memo circulated to media houses, Interim Conference Secretary Bishop Isaih Deye noted that have consulted widely leading to come to the decision of ousting him out in order to bring the church back to its feet's again.

Through a media conference on Friday morning held at MCK towers saw dances and songs rent the air after the committing announced ousting of Rev. Ntombura.

Rev. Ntombura has on many occasions been accused of poor leadership, embezzlement of church funds, being in office illegally, harassment of staff and illegally leasing of church property.

In 2018, four members of MCK, Godfrey Simiyu, Mathew Kaburu, Kibia Michubu and Charles Kinoti had convinced the High Court that Rev. Ntombura was not suitable to lead the church as on several occasions he had disobeyed court orders and sought to have him kicked out of the church.

They further wanted the Bishop to produce his academic credentials for him to proof that he was worthy of leading the church according to its constitution which demands that a bishop should have Master’s degree and basic degree in theology plus at least 10 years’ experience.

In addition, the members also wanted the bishop to respond to their demands and call for the Standing Orders Conference Committee to iron out the grievances against him.

The members also demanded that he gives a report of his business interests, in Kenya and abroad and how he allegedly acquired three plots in Gucha Mission.
