Reasons Why God Commanded Prophet Hosea to Marry a Prostitute Who was Unfaithful

Gomer was the wife of prophet Hosea in the old Testament of the Bible. He was told to marry her because God wanted to use their union to show his love to an unfaithful church. This demostrate that God does not abandon his people even if they may be wicked. He will still try to bring them back to him just like Hosea bringing back her unfaithful wife.

Hosea 1:2

The Lord commanded Hosea to himself a wife and have children with her. Hosea obeyed God by marrying a woman named Gomer who was unfaithful to him. Gomer was a prostitute who was used by God to represent his people of Israel who had turned against him. She represented God's people who had started worshiping idols and forgetting God.

Hosea represented God who loved his people despite being sinful and turning away from him.

God wanted to show the people of Israel that he does give up on them after abandoning him and indulging in pleasure of the world.

Hosea 3:1-3

Hosea was commanded by God to show his love to his wife even though she was loved by another man and she was an adulteress. He was told to love her as the Lord love the Israelites. The Israelites were loved by God even though they turned to other gods and love the sacred raisin cake. Hosea went and bought her wife for fifteen shekels of silver and about a homer and a lethek of barley. He told her that she must live with him for many days and not to be a prostitute again. God used this illustration to show greatness of his grace for mankind.
