At Teenage He Was Selected Into Army But Never fired a Shot, Facts About The Late Pope Benedict XVI

This article highlights five little known facts about the late Pope Benedict XVI whose untimely demise was announced on December 31, 2022.

1) His biological father was policeman and his mother was a hotel cook.

2) He held a helicopter pilot's license, and even would fly the papal helicopter.

3 While he was a teenager, he was selected into the army, but he never took part in combat or fired a shot.

How it happened.

When he was 14, school officials in his country Germany followed Nazi officials’ orders and enrolled him and the rest of his class mates in the Hitler Youth movement – against his will. Few years later after completion of the world war he quit the Hitler's youth movement and joined priesthood.

4) In 2013, he resigned from the Catholic's top spot, citing his old age making him the first to quit in 600 years.

5) He loved cats and was confirmed by Cardinal Roger Mahony during his inauguration as the Pope.
