Catholic Church just is one of the oldest churches in the world. The church performs different 'rituals' during the mass time which is according to their traditions. One of the most common rituals that all the priests in the catholic church perform is kissing the altar before the mass begins. On this article, am going to share with you the main reason why the catholic priest always kisses the altar.
We all know that an altar is a holy place and it should always be given its respect. The priests do so to honor the altar of sacrifice which presents Christ. This is because it is the place why the miracle of the Eucharist occurs. Because of this symbolism, a kiss also represents the marriage between Christ and his Bride (the Church). Another traditional Christian motivation is to honor the saint or martyr whose remains are housed within the altar itself.
