It is very important to know who God is. When you know God in the truth of His Being, it is much easier to appreciate Him and all He has done for you all over the years.
In God’s mercy, He has revealed Himself in ways that we can understand. As long as we are willing to, we can truly know God. God can be known primarily through His Son who is the Word of God. John 1 vs 1 – 5 says “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.
Through Him all things were made; without Him, nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” Also, Hebrews 1 vs 1 – 4 says “In the past, God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom also He made the universe.
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So, He became as much superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is superior to theirs.” This Son is Jesus Christ.
The very one who came to die for our sins so we can have eternal life according to John 3 vs 16 which says “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” We must know Jesus Christ, the Son of God. And the best way to know Him is by studying His word. These are the scriptures that speak about Him from Genesis to Revelations in the bible. So, who is this God? Let us look at just a few features of Him.
1. God is a Spirit. John 4 vs 24 says “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” This is the reason why we cannot see Him. He doesn’t have the mortal body as we do.
2. God exists as three persons in one. This means that there are three different personalities in the Godhead but they are so united they are referred to as One. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Most people always doubt the third person of the trinity which is the Holy Spirit. But there are several times when the scriptures show the presence of all three. One of the best examples we see is when Jesus Christ was being baptized. Matthew 3 vs 16 – 17 says “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
3. God cannot be compared. 2 Samuel 7 vs 22 says “Therefore you are great, O LORD God. For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.” God cannot be compared with any other being either supernatural or ordinary. God is unique and none can be equal to Him.
4. God is unchanging. Malachi 3 vs 6 says “For I the LORD do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.” God doesn’t change and this is one of the reasons why we can trust Him. He isn’t like a man that will change His mind based on emotions. God’s plans are eternal and will continue to remain so.
5. God is infinite. 1 Timothy 1 vs 17 says “To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”. God is beyond measure; He is without limits. God isn’t constricted to time or other laws of the universe the way we are. He operates outside of our realm.
