Residents of Arror, Elgeyo Marakwet, were shocked after learning that a German Catholic Missionary who instituted development projects in Kerio Valley, had died.
According to the Benedictine Abbey in Tigoni that houses the congregation's missionaries, Father Florian Von Bayern died in hospital while receiving treatment.
"Fr Florian (Franz Joseph Michael Maria Ignatius) Prinz Von Bayern, OSB died peacefully at St Scholastica Uzima Hospital, Ruaka. The rest of the programme will be communicated later," Abbot John Baptist from the community of Tigoni Abbey posted on Facebook.
Eldoret Catholic diocese vicar general Reverend William Kosgey said that they received news of the missionary's death with grief because of his work when he served at Arror Parish.
"Fr Florian's passing on is a big blow to Eldoret diocese. He empowered residents through education and introduced them to important life skills," he said.
The priest was born 65 years ago in the German state of Bavaria where he spent his childhood herding cattle and horses on their farm.
