Most Commonly Used Bukusu Words That You Might Not Be Knowing Their Meanings

Bukusu is one of the subtribes of the Luhya community in Kenya. There are certain words that Bukusu people use commonly in their communications that people from other subtribes may not be knowing their meanings.

Today I will share with you some of the Bukusu words that you may be wondering what they mean.

1.Embanya.

This is a Bukusu word which means a gap between a person's front teeth. The word is mostly used to describe a person who have a gap in between his/ her teeth.

2.Namulekhwa.

This is a Bukusu word that means a widow. Describes a woman whose husband has died.

3.Omwilwachi.

This is a Bukusu word that means pastor or somebody who administers the word of God be it a man or a woman.

4.Omukhulundu.

This means a Catholic priest This person is respected a lot by Bukusu people especially those who are Catholics by religion.

5.Omusinde.

This means a male person who has not circumcised.

6.Omufuvi.

This means an orphan.

7.Omurende.

This means a person who is from another community. In most cases,luhya people can not share secrets with this person.

8.Mulembe.

These are general greetings anytime of the day.

9.Kumukunda.

This means a large piece of land.

10.Kukhu.

This means grandmother.
