After he betrayed Jesus with a kiss, Judas later regretted it which led to him hanging himself. The Bible states that he "threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself. Mathew 27:5
"The Chief priests picked up the coins and said that, 'it's against the law to put this into the treasury, since it's blood money. They decided to use the money and bought a field called potter's field as a burial place for foreigners. Hence til this day it's called as Field of blood. Mathew 27:6-8.
The field of blood is also known as Akeldama. It's exactly the same field where Judas Iscariot hanged himself and a Church called The Greek Orthodox Monastery St Onuphrius is built where Judas Iscariot died.
The Monastery was built on 1874 by a man named Onuphrius hence the church name. He was well known for his luxurious beard, his only garment apart for his loin leaves. The Church is occupied by a small group of nuns til these date.
