After Kalonzo 's unexpected departure from Azimio coalition, information emerged that Makueni senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior, Kitui Senator Wambua and MP Dan Maanzo were behind Kalonzo's continued demand for the running mate position and his subsequent departure from Azimio.
The three senators were accused by another caucus of Ukambani leaders lead by Charity Ngilu of using Kalonzo to bargain for higher positions of power incase Azimio wins elections. Allegedly, the three lawmakers had the mentality that they would get higher positions of power if Kalonzo was appointed Raila's running mate. They were also accused of using Kalonzo to win votes needed to defend their current seats.
Following the allegations, Makueni Member of Parliament Dan Maanzo has set the records straight denying allegations that they was using Kalonzo to brighten their future political stars.
Speaking to Nation Africa today, Maanzo was clear that him, Senator Wambua and Mutula had no secret intentions of continuously pushing for Kalonzo's appointment as Raila's running mate. "We have won elections before and we would still win our respective seats with or without standing with Kalonzo," said Kalonzo.
Maanzo farther that Kalonzo's decision to withdraw from Azimio was a collective decision of the party's NDC and they had no direct hand in influencing Kalonzo leave the coalition. He denied allegations that he is a hardliner. "The decision to leave Azimio was arrived by the NDC which included many people and not us only," said Maanzo.
