It is now evidently clear that the 2022 presidential race in Kenya is a two-horse race contest pitting Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya Dr William Samoei Ruto and ODM party leader Raila Amolo Odinga.Despite others also salivating for the same seat, the duo are seemingly ahead in the pack.
Initially,DP Ruto had an upper hand as far as the presidential contest was concerned. The opinion polls that were conducted were putting the second in command far above his closest competitors. But contrary to above, things have seemingly changed especially with the fierce entry of Raila Odinga in the 2022 presidential contest.
At the moment,Raila is seen outsmarting and outshining DP Ruto in Kenya's political terrain. The popularity of Ruto is seen diminishing and waning as Raila is gradually climbing the ladder especially in the vote-rich Mount Kenya region.
To start with,Raila's political star is continuing to shine even further due to the new tacts he has employed in his political gameplan. The Opposition supremo has shun politics of confrontation and insult. He is keen on what to say about his opponents as this could provoke confrontation. His attacks have turned to be soft and on light touches.
Two,Raila has embraced issue-based politics where he is more concerned with selling his agenda and manifesto to Kenyan masses as opposed to just mere propaganda and malice. His plans for all the social groups and the economy in entirety has really metamorphosised him into a new face of reform and change in Kenya.
Lastly,Mr Odinga has adopted politics of inclusion where he is embracing everybody and all political groupings into his fold.He is keen to marshall everyone to the last man regardless of their tribal or political affiliations.Despite being the ODM party leader,Raila is seen to be welcoming all like-minded parties.Contrary to DP Ruto who is keen to popularise UDA party as the only vehicle for 2022 race terming small parties as tribal,Odinga has not shunned this small political outfits,a move that could see him bag more grassroot support.
