Kenya is witnessing a charged and hightened political environment as 2022 General elections draw closer and closer.Key presidential aspirants are crisscrossing the country in a bid to sell their candidatures and win the support across the country.
After meeting ODM party leader Raila Amolo Odinga in the recent past,Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi over the weekend met Amani National Congress Party Leader Musalia Mudavadi. This come before a scheduled visit by the ANC leader to Meru.
Murungi welcomed Musalia Mudavadi observing that Meru Community would embrace any presidential aspirant who would cater for the interest of the community. This move comes at the backdrop of an alledged endorsement of ODM leader Raila Odinga by the governor. However, Murungi's Deputy has since downplayed the allegations claiming that the community is open to work with any presidential candidate who would be ready to listen to their woes.He rubbished the claims that the Meru county chief had endorsed Raila's presidential bid.
This change of language and stand is a poison in chalice for Raila's presidential bid since Murungi's endorsement could highly boost his vote basket in the vote-rich Mount Kenya region in 2022.
