President Ruto Tapped Former KTN News Anchor Mike Gitonga As Government Spokesperson

President William Ruto tapped former KTN News anchor Mike Gitonga as the new Secretary State Functions.

Sources privy to the report confirmed to this desk that the office, charged with overseeing all government communications, was reshuffled from that of the Government Spokesperson.

Gitonga now succeeded Colonel (Rtd) Cyrus Odhiambo Oguna who resigned in September 2022.

As Secretary State Functions, Gitonga will charged with overseeing various media functions including research, developing recommendations, and presenting them to the State House Chief of Staff for verification before they are given to the public.

His appointment came years after Colonel Oguna also took over from Mr Eric Kiraithe who held the position since August 2018.

Gitonga will also be responsible for generating community and media interest in the executive's legislative package through e-mail outreach, targeted pitch calls, and press conferences.

He will also have an oversight role over the two government news gathering and dissemination channels- Kenya News Agency and MyGov.

As the Director of Corporate Communications at the office of First Lady Rachel Ruto, Gitonga was in charge of the MAMA initiative.
