Government To Give Chiefs And Assistants To Be Given Firearms To Help Them In Their Duties

Professionals at the local level in Kenya also contribute to maintaining order in their communities, complementing the efforts of the national government. Local government is run by chiefs and assistant chiefs, who report to the cabinet secretary for interior and coordination of national government.

Professor Kithure Kindiki, secretary of the interior cabinet, has announced that chiefs and their assistants in areas with bandits will be given firearms to help recover stolen livestock.

One must be a Kenyan citizen, a resident of the area they wish to represent, have some experience in public life, and have earned a C+ or higher on the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams before being eligible for promotion to the rank of sub-chief or chief.

Assistant chiefs are paid between 26,000 and 47,000 by the Public Service Commission, where the two are employed. Pay for chiefs ranges from 30,000 to 70,000 per year.

Thank you.
