Attorney General Justin Muturi has warned President William Ruto to exercise caution in appointing a commission to look into the former administration. A decision like that, in Muturi's opinion, may be harmful politically and from the standpoint of retaliation.
Inquiring about Uhuru is a poor idea because, as the attorney general acknowledges, the nation's democracy is precarious. However, the AG concedes that the wisest course of action is to set up a commission of investigation into Uhuru Kenyatta.
It is true that the president ran on a platform supporting the creation of an inquiry commission on the morning of August 9. Rigathi Gachagua and other Kenya Kwanza leaders seem to have given up on the ideology they were promoting.
Nevertheless, Gachagua and Muturi acknowledge that corrupt officials will have to answer to the law. The fact that some leaders tried to stage a coup must be dealt with.
