Fuel appears to be the government's cash cow that never stops giving. Petroleum products have become a revenue target to the point where taxes exceed the cost of the product.
Almost every year, the government enacts new tax measures or raises existing ones. With all sectors heavily reliant on fuel, either for production or transportation, fuel taxes almost always result in increased government revenue.
High Court has claimed that the action by the EPRA is against the law as it breaches the Tax Laws stipulated by the Parliament.
The ruling by the High Court is a big blow to Jubilee government as the court has been on her heels, with recent one being the ruling that NMS General Badi should be barred from attending Cabinet meetings.
