“We Are Not Going To Report to A Multiagency Taskforce” Chebukati Reiterates

Chairman of the Independent Electoral & Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati has today reiterated that it will not continue reporting to a team of agencies as that is not grounded in law and is instead working with other relevant agencies according to an interview with TV47.

“As a commission, we are not going to report to another agency (multi-agency taskforce) but we are ready and we are working with other agencies to ensure success of the 2022 elections,” Chebukati said.

The news comes just two days after Chebukati said that IEBC had withdrawn from the multiagency team citing interference with independence of the electoral body. Many have voiced their concerns regarding the move saying IEBC is partisan and cannot deliver a free and fair election next year.

The multiagency comprises of Fred Matiangi, Joe Mucheru and CJ Martha Koome who are in charge of key dockets that will play big roles in the election. Withdrawal from the team is a clear sign that IEBC may not deliver a fair election because it cannot run elections on its own.
