Speculations As Powerful MP Goes Silent Weeks After Losing ODM Nominations For Governor

She went into the ODM party nominations for the Busia Governor seat as a hot favorite. If loyalty is anything to go by, then no one stood a chance against her. But when the tribal card was invoked, she found herself in an awkward political position.

When the final results were announced, Busia Women Representative Florence Mutua had been whitewashed by former Funyula MP Paul Otuoma.

In a county where politics of tribe is very common, Mutua was seen as an outsider and nearly all the ODM political heavyweights in Busia ganged up against her.

Though Governor Sospeter Ojaamong is said to have been secretly backing her bid to succeed him, Mutua stood no chance against Dr Otuoma, the political giant who had once felled a sitting Vice President.

Since her humiliating defeat during the ODM party primaries, Mutua has gone silent, leaving many guessing if she is considering her political future.

A key ally of the ODM party leader Raila Odinga, Mutua has over the last few weeks maintained a very low political profile. Is she still nursing her injuries before resurfacing?

With Dr Otuoma hitting the campaign trail, the National Assembly Education Committee chairperson is a no-show in most ODM functions. Her absence and silence will no doubt continue sparking speculations.
