Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has been a frequent feature of Citizen TV Daybreak Show. Since President Uhuru Kenyatta banned political gatherings, he has found comfort in mainstream media communicating to millions of Kenyans every morning. Through the platform and his social media handles, he has been enlightening people about COVID-19 and its severity.
Just last week, he said that it was the council of governors that advised President Uhuru to close the country. He said that they had predicted if county borders will keep open, the country will suffer same fate as India. He also advised the government to send aid to the Asian country that has been badly hit by coronavirus.
It was perplexing though to see Dr Alfred Mutua advising Kenyans to visit his hotel in Machakos and enjoy themselves. Earlier Mutua had cautioned Kenyans that Machakos had no free ICU bed but now he was here telling people to make merry. Many his followers accused him of double standards. Preaching the severity of COVID-19 but at the same time advertising his hospitality business without even mentioning any Ministry of Health protocols. You can follow the whole thread here.
