The race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta will be one of the most fiercely contested races in the history of Kenya with the country's political heavyweights readying themselves for a ferocious contest.
Whereas ODM leader Raila Odinga is said to be Uhuru's preferred choice of a successor, the threat posed by Deputy President William Ruto is one that cannot just be dismissed.
To some, if the DP can manage to clinch the populous Mount Kenya voting bloc, then his march to State House will surely be unstoppable.
With President Kenyatta and former Prime Minister said to be working on an alliance to counter the Ruto wave come the next general election, still, if the DP makes the right choice of a running mate, then the Uhuru-Raila alliance stands no chance against the hustler nation candidate.
In the mind of Ruto and his strategists, winning the Mount Kenya region bloc will surely springboard the DP's State House ambitions. To do this, then a running mate from Uhuru's backyard is more than necessary!

Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua is surely the person the DP can rope into his camp if he is to hand Uhuru-Raila a heavy defeat in 2022.
Seen as one of the most powerful women in the country, the Karua factor in the Ruto ticket will be a game changer in the State House race.
First, Karua comes with a big name which she has managed to build over years.
With shinny CV because of her reform credentials, Karua can reenergize the DP's ticket.
Further, with a political career spanning over three decades, Karua is one of the most experienced politicians in Kenya. This alone is a plus for Ruto.
Then being a woman, the Ruto- Karua alliance is one that can win the support of Kenyans.
Though Ruto- Karua alliance remains very unlikely, but in politics, anything can happen. But should it happen, expect it sweep across the country, more so Mount Kenya where Uhuru appears to be losing ground.
