The 2022 general elections is what major political players are focusing on currently. All the energy is directed upon the election of a candidate who a particular section deem fit. William Ruto has recruited former economic strategists of former president Mwai Kibaki. This is in a process of making him ready for a good manifesto to sell to Kenyans. On the other hand ODM leader Raila Odinga is meeting with various leaders at his Karen residency on a daily basis.
The constitution amendment bill is likely to force parliament to postpone the next general elections for may be a year. This is because they have to discuss the bill anf handle the referundum issue. The process is being slowed down as it is facing several hurdles. Currently there is a crisis on who printed different copies to some counties.
Parliament has to deal with the demarcation of new constituencies. This will take a bit of time since some aspects of the constitution have to be applied. At the same time it may face opposition from some members of parliament. This may take months to be done by a serious national assembly.
The electoral body IEBC has to be reconstructed. New commisioners have to be appointed and this may raised different interests across major political players. It must ensure that everybody is satisfied. The commissioners appointed should be trusted with the whole process. They should not be influenced by anyone.
All these factors put together inside a busy calendar it is certain that the general elections may be pushed forward. Parliament might decide to extend it's term may by a year or some months.
