30 July, NAIROBI, Kenya - Kenyans awoke to a large billboard in Nairobi announcing Rigathi Gachagua, Kenya Kwanza's running partner, had been ordered by a court to turn over Sh200 million to the state.
The yellow billboard on Thika Road screams, “Freedom is coming, 200 million recovered”
But it's not obvious who put up the billboard that hurts William Ruto's presidential campaign for the UDA.
This comes after a judge this week ordered Gachagua to hand up Sh200 million, the source of which he refused to disclose during a corruption inquiry.
Gachagua has pledged to challenge the ruling, claiming it was influenced by politics.
The Mathira MP said that the judgment was a ploy to obstruct his ascent in politics as a candidate for the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
In a vain attempt to discredit my candidacy for the upcoming elections and my outstanding performance in the running mates discussion last week, the verdict was hurriedly issued ten days before the elections, according to Gachagua.
