Azimio Members of Parliaments led by Ruaraka lawmaker TJ Kajwang were today teargassed as armed police officers blocked them from accessing Anniversary towers to protest the interdiction of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, IEBC Deputy Chief Executive Officer CEO Ruth Kulundu. The legislators had accused IEBC of victimising Kulundu for not conforming to the will of her bosses after the August 9 presidential poll.

Speaking during the incident, Kajwang blamed the IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati and his CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan which portray the institution that has surrendered its independence and disregarded the rule of law.
The armed officers had directed the Azimio MPs to disperse hundreds of their supporters who were standing by the gate before they got an audience with the electoral body. However, minutes later chaos ensued, with some of the MPs caught in the melee as police were forced into using teargas.
