Bungoma county government is working on their ambitious plan to ensure that Bungoma town is upgraded to a city by the end of 2022. The county is working on implementation of the several infrustracture projects to meet the required standards for city status promotion.
The county Governor Hon. Wycliffe Wangamati has recently commissioned the construction of a dual carriage highway that is connecting Musikoma and Kanduyi subcounties. According to the Governor's office report, the project is set to cost about Sh1.38 billion. The highway is set to benefit more the residents of Bungoma town hence enhancing its promotion to a city.
“With the completion of the dual carriageway, locals will be able to access social amenities with ease and also make the county attractive both to local and foreign investors. The facelift of the town will make us earn city status like Kakamega and Nakuru counties by 2022,” said Mr Murgor who is the Chief Executive Urban Planning Authority.
The country is also committed to ensure that there's proper housing programme within the town before the end of 2022. There's an ongoing affordable housing project, which is being funded by the World Bank at a cost of Sh340 million in conjunction with the Bungoma Municipality. The amount is set to build about 84 houses in about eight estates within the town to ensure the proper planning.
