Garissa Township Member of Parliament Hon. Aden Duale has slammed President Uhuru Kenyatta for allegedly looking down upon him and in the process interrupting his media interview, leaving the MP poking holes in the State of the Nation Address that the President made.
While addressing the media, Duale stated that President Uhuru arrived late for the Parliament function, at 3:45 Pm which was not the scheduled time, 2:30 pm and the head of state continued and read his 200-plus page speech.
Duale lamented that the Uhuru went ahead and attacked a section of the Judiciary yet at the very time, the legislator was carrying out an interview with some journalists who had to stop interrogating him.
“The President went further and attacked the judiciary and particularly judges…some of them…some of them, who were at the gallery,” said Duale.
He further noted that the President used the floor of the Parliament to attack the President of the Court of Appeal, Judge Daniel Masinga, adding that, the head of state later introduced the subject of the Building Bridge Initiative (BBI), which was not important.
The Legislator said they expected the President to address matters of National security, extrajudicial killing, and enforced disappearances, all of which Uhuru did not mention.
“Judge Daniel Masinga was at the gallery and the president basically attacked him. The President cannot use the floor of Parliament to attack the Judiciary. He kept on lamenting about BBI, BBI is null. We expected the President to speak on matters of national security, to speak on the extrajudicial killing and enforced disappearances, but he did not,” Duale fired back.
According to Duale, Uhuru avoided talking about things Kenyans wanted to like the debt the country is grappling with and matters national security, adding that the Constitution provides him with certain issues that should be addressed, adding that the speechwriters should be giving the head of state briefs on what has been written.
Duale was later re-invited by the Journalist who reminded him where they had stopped before the sudden interruption that had been brought about by the head of the state`s arrival.
