Narok county senator Ledama Olekina has disagreed with His Excellency the Head of State president William Ruto on his advice to Kenyans to eat Genetically Modified Organisms.
He has noted that His Excellency the Head of State was wrong in his advice to Kenyans and the Orange Democratic Movement ODM party elected senator has since asked Kenyans to ignore the president's advice.
"President William Ruto is lying to you Kenyans GMO is dangerous please stay away and say no to GMO. This pressure from the west is not good for our economy. The minute we allow GMO into the country the minute Europe our biggest fresh produce market closes its doors! twice"Ledama Olekina.
On Wednesday, His Excellency the Head of State noted that he was convinced that GMO food was healthy for Kenyans noting that he was a scientists and hence he knew what he was talking about.
“I am equally a scientist, and all scientists and universities in Kenya agree that GMOs have no issues, countries like South Africa, and America have 100% GMO,have you heard of anyone growing horns in South Africa, or developing extra limbs because of consuming GMOs?” he posed.
In October 2022, the government lifted a 10-year ban on the cultivation and importation of genetically modified crops.
