Jubilee party shall field a candidate in Bonchari parliamentary by-election.This is according to Jubilee Secretary General Hon.Raphael Tuju. The Jubilee candidate,Hon.Zebedeo John Opore shall face off with ODM's Pavel Oimeke, making the Bonchari by-election the first one on one contest between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga since the handshake in 2018.
Zebedeo Opore is the former MP who was first elected in 1997.He failed to recapture the seat in 2007 election. He bounced back in 2013 election only for his seat to be given to his opponent the late Hon.John Oyoo by the courts before the declaration of a by-election was made.He won in the by-election.In 2017,he again lost the seat, coming a first runners up to the late MP Hon.Oyoo.
ODM candidate in Bonchari by-election Hon.Pavel Oimeke.
In past elections, either Jubilee supported ODM or the vice versa happened in order to safeguard the handshake. For instance,in Kibra Constituency,President Uhuru Kenyatta supported the ODM candidate even though Jubilee was having a candidate. In London Ward,ODM supported a Jubilee candidate against UDA's Nzuki Wachira.Jubilee supported ODM in Msambweni. However,Jubilee supported ANC in Matungu Constituency by-election instead of ODM which was also fielding a candidate.
UDA which is associated with DP Ruto is also fielding the late MP's Mrs.Teresa Bitutu Oroo for the seat.Analysts say that an open confrontation between Jubilee and UDA shall give an upper hand to ODM party in the by-election.However,the handshake will be at big loss in the by-election if the recent occurrences are anything to go by.
