In Kenya, public officers are different groups of people who hold offices in government organizations such as the national assembly, local authority, public university or a co-operative society.
Today, the chairman of the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Wafula Chebukati has send a message to all public servants wishing to enter into political races in the next general elections to make sure they have resigned before 9 February 2022.
According to the constitution of Kenya 2010, such persons are supposed to resign from office during times they have shown interests of vying for political positions.
In such cases, vacant positions left by those public officers who would have resigned will be left free for other persons who will have no desire to vie for any political positions in the country.
This move also helps the IEBC commission to collect data for those candidates who will be running for various positions as well as avoiding overlap of duties and mixing of actual duties with politics.
