Elected Leaders in Samburu Refuses to Be Sworn In

Members of the Samburu County Assembly who are linked with the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition did not vote for the speaker.

Following their refusal to take the oath of office, the MCAs affiliated with Azimio staged a walkout while claiming that one of their own members had been purposely omitted from the voter list.

There was a standoff outside the main gates of the Samburu County Assembly after the Azimio MCAs ignored the swearing-in ceremony.

Azimio MCAs were pleaded with by Assembly Clerk Patrick Leshore to enter the chambers and take the oath of office.

After the county clerk gave the dissident MCAs 10 minutes to return to the chambers, the Kenya Kwanza MCAs who had already been sworn in were then allowed to cast their votes for the speaker.Fred triumphed over the prevailing Solomon Lempere on the side of Azimio. Politicians should now understand that the time for political games is past, and they should carry out the duties for which they were chosen by the people.
