His Excellency President William Ruto has been handed a major blow on Wednesday 19th following the fresh announcement from the Nairobi county Assembly.
Over the recent past, the Raila-led Azimio La Umoja affiliates have been battling with Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza MCA's for the majority membership of the Nairobi county Assembly. The contest has finally been put to an end after Speaker Ken Ng'ondi made final declaration today on which coalition is the majority in the city.
In a statement, Speaker Ken informed that Azimio La Umoja has a total of sixty seven Members of County Assembly (MCAs) while those elected under Kenya Kwanza adds up to fifty three. With that, Azimio was declared majority in Nairobi despite of the fact that Azimio was beaten in both the National Assembly and the Senate.
Further the Speaker argued that based on the numbers declared by the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the coalition agreements from Registrar of Political Parties and the fact that no MCA had indicated defection from one side to the other gave Raila's Azimio the majority tag.
