The president of Somalia Hassan Sheikh mohamud has tested positive on the covid-19 pandemic disease. Mohamud who has assumed the office of the president since May 2022 is under the isolation in his residential area.

Shortly after returning from a trip to the United Arab Emirates, Somalia's new president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced on Friday that he is isolated after testing positive for Covid-19.

The 66-year-old president came back from his first official trip overseas since his election on May 2022 to United Arab Emirates.

Former scholar and peace activist Mohamud served as president from 2012 to 2017, however his first term was marred by allegations of corruption and internal strife.

In his statement, Mohamud claimed that he will still serve his people from his residential area where he was isolated. He therefore called upon his people to follow the protocols set by the ministry of health in his country.
