The political storm has ensued in the county since Senator Susan Kihika declared her interest in the county's top job. She intents to de-throne incumbent County Governor Lee Kinyanjui in the 2022 general election. The two were elected on Jubilee tickets in last elections. The Senator is already giving the incumbent governor sleepless nights.
Politician David Tarus who is seeking to vie for Mosop Member of Parliament seat has joined the discussion and conversation on who will win the Nakuru top sit in next years polls. According to to Tarus, Nakuru County is a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party stronghold commanding upto 80% support.Kihika am ardent supporter of DP Ruto will be seeking the gubernatorial seat under UDA, a party associated with the second in command. Tarus alleges Kihika will be elected the next Governor of the county since she supports DP Ruto in his quest to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The county is made up of 11 constituencies which include Nakuru Town East, Nakuru Town West, Bahati, Rongai, Subukia, Kuresoi North, Kuresoi South, Gilgil, Naivasha, Njoro and Molo.
"Nakuru County is 70-80% UDA & in support of DP Ruto. Governor Lee Kinyanju's declaration of suppprt for ODM & Raila is a through pass & a direct ticket for Sen. Susan Kihika to be the next governor. In any case, Kihika is much more qualified & better suited to transform Nakuru." said David Tarus in a tweet.
Governor Lee Kinyanjui has been among the leaders who are trying to popularise Raila Odinga’s presidential bid in the expansive and restive Mt Kenya region. A region with approximately 8 million votes accross 11 counties.
