Outgoing Migori county Governor Okoth Obado ia likely to bw thw decisive kingmaker in the Migori County Gubernatorial race in August. This is because of the influence he still has in the local politics. Recently, he was appointed as UDA pointman in Nyanza to spearhead the local campaigns.
Fast forward, why do you need Okoth Obado's support? Governor Obado controls the Kuria voting block. That is the two counties of Kuria, East and West. For anyone to win the governor seat in Migori, they will need to consolidate the Kuria Votes as they go ahead and split the luo votes. Choosing a Kuria candidate is usually not enough. Obado is able to tell the community on who to vote for.
This year, Obado's support will be important for every candidate considering he is not in ODM, and Kuria is also not in ODM. However, the Kuria region will most likely not be voting an ODM candidate, since they have Ruto as their preferred presidential pick.
If Obado picks a candidate and rallies the Kuria block behind him, then the candidates will only need a small portion of the Luo votes. It is reported that he is backing John Pesa of DAP-Kenya as his preferred governor candidate whas been selling him in Kuria. That is not so good news for Ochillo Ayacko of ODM
