Independent electoral boundaries commission chairman Wafula Chebukati stated that he had a conversation with Mr Rafael Tuju at 3am in the morning on 15th of August. According to Chebukati, the phone call was meant to lure him into discussing matters pertaining tallying of presidential votes. However,Tuju has come out to reiterate that the communication was done at 4am and not 3am as it was alleged.
According to Tuju,he is ready to submit the conversation to the relevant authorities. However, the question remains why did he call the IEBC Chairperson at such a time when the presidential results were being tallied? What was the motives behind his call?Chebukati has been open from the onset,he has been revealing to Kenyans the events that took place on that fateful day. It is clear that some leaders tried their best to have the votes manipulated to a no avail.
Kenyans should be wondering why vice Chairperson chose to disown results at the very end of the whole process. The mandate of the commission is to ensure free, fair and credible election process. If at all she saw some irregularities,Cherera should have raised the alerm before the announcement date. How the events took place is another huge blow to Kenyans. While Chebukati was at the Bomas of kenya, madam Cherera was at Serena Hotel. Does it mean she chose to move with the other officials without the knowledge of the Chairperson? What is the security behind all this?
We saw on TV how the Chairperson and other officials were mishandled by the opposing side,it took some minutes to cool the situation before Chebukati came back to announce the results. He had to seat next to Dr.William Samoe Ruto while announcing the results. One,Olekina Ledama was even injured as a result of trying to force a fight in the Bomas of Kenya. Our leaders tarnished the name of the country and forced other nations to realise our weakness as far as greed for power is concerned.
One wonders why someone will call Wafula Chebukati at 4am.It is nit normal to call someone at such a time especially during the presidential tallying process. Kenyans should be given some light on the conversation that took place. It is for this reason that I ask for an explanation from Tuju on why he chose to call the chairman at such a time.Telling Kenyans that he called at 4am not 3am is a way of diverting the facts, otherwise, it is my opinion.
