The general election in August is less than a year away. Various leaders are doing everything they can to keep their camp together while looking for new followers at various rallies across the country. However, in the contest to successor President Uhuru Kenyatta, the vice president William Ruto and the head of the Orange Democratic Movement, Raila Amollo Odinga, are viewed as the two leading contenders. The duos have been announcing their political candidacy to the public in an attempt to persuade them to vote for them in the August general elections.
This has resulted in the deputy president, William Ruto, issuing a statement that has elicited a wide range of opinions online.The vice president indicated that he intends to overcome intimidation and blackmail in order to form an administration that is responsive to the people.
Ruto's remarks drew the ire of many Kenyans online, who chastised him for claiming to have suffered actual pressure and blackmail. Others advised him to question Raila about his experiences and the true meaning of teargas. Kenyans' reactions are listed below.
