Former Bomet county governor Isaac Rutto on Sunday disappointed his critics as the Azimio la Umoja coalition took their presidential campaigns to the South Rift region.
Led by its presidential candidate former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua,, the larger brigade made of Nyanza and Central political heavyweights arrived in Bomet for a series of rallies in Bomet and Kericho counties.
Earlier on, there were rumours that the former governor and the CCM party leader will receive Raila and his team as the host politician and take them through the region.
The duo have a history where Mr Ruto was on Raila's side during the last 2017 general election and served as co-principals in the Nasa coalition
Mr Rutto would later ditch Raila Odinga to mend fences with Deputy President William Ruto who is perceived to be the Rift Valley kingpin. However, Mr Rutto who is on a mission to clinch his governorship seat has not been part of William Ruto's campaign team hence allowing his opponents a chance to link him to the Azimio team.
However, Isaac Rutto was nowhere to be seen when Raila landed in Bomet on Sunday Morning. Isaack Rutto kept off Raila's presense and instead took to AGC Kyogong in the Chepalungu constituency
This is set to bring to an end the allegations that the former county chief is still Raila's associate despite his numerous efforts to make it clear that he is supporting William Ruto's presidential bid.
Isaac Rutto is locked in a supremacy battle with the incumbent governor Prof Hillary Barchok who is defending the seat on William Ruto's UDA party.
