Kieni MP Kanini Kega has joined ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna in defending Suna East MP Junet Mohamed after saying that a Raila win in the coming presidential elections implies a government that will belong to the Nyanza Region.
Yesterday, Sifuna termed Junet's comment as a 'joke' and added that Raila will be a president of all Kenyans across the country.
The National Assembly Minority Whip has been under criticism over the sentiments, with political leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto's team 'congratulating' Junet for giving a private snippet of what Kenyans should expect should Raila win in 2022.
As quoted by People's Daily, Kega said that the statement by Raila's de facto spokesperson was in jest adding that the Mount Kenya Region and people from the Lake Basin will remain united.
The lawmaker who has been rallying and accompanying Raila to different places across the Mt Kenya Region urged Kenyans not to use Junet's remarks in creating an unnecessary discussion out of it.
"The Lake and the Mountain remains united. Baba (Raila) is a statesman. My colleague Junet's statement was in jest. Let's not create a mountain out of an anthill," said Kega.
