Raila Odinga Speaks of Taxation Issue

Raila Odinga some few hours ago held talks with people of Eastleigh as he continues with his political campaign program.Present with him were his followers, the Chairman Sheikh Mohammed Shakul and other Eastleigh businessmen who came to base their talks on issues to do with taxation, environmental conservation and government agencies conduct.

Raila, who was hosted by businessmen of the Somali community, mentioned that businesses create a society and the government should uphold them.A secured environment is what he said will make businesses to thrive.

On the issue of taxation,he mentioned of the grand coalition government which is concerned with tax collection. He said overtaxation is a punutive measure and an inhuman thing for that case.He appreciated NMS led by General Badi noting that they have shown their willingness to work with the government and have made contributions in the business industry a lot.

In addition to that he mentioned of water allocation, roads, sewer treatment and garbage collectoion, something that had been addressed by a business communuty in Gikomba business community.

Kenya Bureau of Standards(KEBS),a regulative agency, being its founder,he said ,doesn't need to be involved in inspection of second hand cars."In a view it does not make sense that KEBS should be engaging itself with the inspection of second hand vehicles What standard is there in second hand vehicles. Why should the Bureau of Standards be appointing agencies to test and inspect used cars.Used cars are used cars. There is no standard for used cars. They are mitumba,"he said.He added that the Bureau should be more concerned with the standards of the lives of the people.

"If somebody is buying something that is substandard knowing it is substandard, then shauri yake," this he voiced out.In addition, the bureau should not be used as a tool of harrassment for businessmen and the people of Kenya.

In support of his speech,he reiterated on the statement of one man,one vote, one shilling he had made two days ago on the issue of reasonable fund allocation to counties. He used an example of Murang'a county and Kiambu county having populations of eight hundred thousand and two million respectively.Murang'a with a small population as compared to Kiambu, receives 12 billion shillings while Kiambu received 9 billion shillings, something he termed as unfair.
